Sport Mouth Guards
Protecting your smile while playing sports is essential and mouth guards can help to protect your teeth and gums from injury. If you participate in any kind of full-contact sport, the American Dental Association recommends wearing a mouth guard. There are three basic types of sport mouth guards: a pre-made mouth guard, a “boil-and-bite” fitted mouth guard, and a custom-made mouth guard. Smileboston Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry offers our patients custom-fitted sport mouth guards that are individually designed and fitted comfort. Our team will help you choose the right sport mouth guard to ensure proper fit, wear, and care.
Sleep Mouth Guards
According to the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, one in eight Americans suffers from headaches so severe that their everyday life is affected. In fact, headaches are the number one pain problem in the U.S. While many people suspect that their headaches are caused by muscle tension, they should consider that this tension could actually be a result of dental stresses; grinding and clenching and even snoring and sleep apnea.
If you often wake up with jaw pain, earaches, or headaches, or if you find yourself clenching your teeth, you may have a common condition – tooth grinding. Because grinding usually occurs when sleeping or under stress, many people do not even know that they grind their teeth. If not corrected, grinding can lead to many occlusal issues including broken or cracked teeth and even tooth loss.
There is an easy, non-invasive treatment for tooth grinding: sleep mouth guards. Sleep guards are an easy way to prevent the wear and damage that teeth-grinding causes over time and, when used properly, 90% of patients are relieved of their headache symptoms. Custom-made from soft material to fit your teeth, a sleep guard is simply inserted over your top or bottom arch and prevents contact with the opposing teeth.
“Thank you for recommending and preparing a nighttime bite plate for me. This bite plate has really made the difference [and] I find I sleep more comfortably.”
