Pembroke Team
Welcome Dr. Orenstein

We’re excited to welcome the newest member of the Smileboston family, Dr. Noah Orenstein, pictured here with his wife, Diana, and their dog Suri.

Dr. Orenstein grew up on Cape Cod and was influenced by his father, who is also a dentist, to pursue a career in dentistry. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine. After spending a few years in private practice, Dr. Orenstein returned to the University of Connecticut for a three-year advanced specialty degree in Prosthodontics and Implant Surgery. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Facial Esthetics and in 2013 he became Board Certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

In addition to these impressive credentials, Dr. Orenstein regularly volunteers at Harvard’s Advanced Program for Implant Reconstruction, is active in a number of professional associations and has been published in numerous prosthodontic journals. In his free time, (I know, how does he have any?) Dr. Orenstein enjoys spending time with family, reading, running, playing golf and tennis and boating around Cape Cod and the Islands.

Be sure to say hello the next time you’re in the Smileboston office. Dr. Orenstein is currently accepting new patients in our Brookline location.

Receding Gums:
A Major Oral Health Issue
Gum recession happens when the gums have worn away, exposing teeth to damaging, disease-causing bacteria. Caused largely by gum disease, over-brushing, or even braces, gum recession affects nearly half of the U.S. population!

Traditional treatments, such as gum grafting, are available but require painful surgery and a long recovery time. Smileboston is pleased to offer its patients an alternative treatment option to correct gum recession that provides virtually pain-free results.

This new technology, called the Pinhole Surgical Technique ( (PST), was invented by Dr. John Choa, DDS in California. Our very own Dr. Spitz has studied with Dr. Choa in order to bring the PST back to his patients right here in Boston and the South Shore.

Receding gums can now be corrected with this incision and suture-free treatment. Treatment entails the creation of a small pinhole above the receded gums. With special instruments, the gums are loosened from the underlying connective tissue and moved to the proper position. Finally, collagen strips are placed through the pinhole, under the gums, to keep them in place. PST is quick (it only takes 20 minutes to fix 2-3 teeth), easy (remember, no incisions) and instantly pleasing, in that the gum line looks practically normal once the procedure is complete. In fact, many patients are astounded by the immediate change in their appearance.

Dr. Spitz is available to treat patients at both Smileboston locations, in Brookline and Pembroke. Is the Pinhole technique right for you? Call us ( to find out.
Adventure Travel to Peru, Check!
This article was written by Danyelle Dwyer a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Merriam-Webster defines “bucket list” as a list of things that one has not done before, but wants to do before dying. I continue to add to my bucket list, sometimes daily, but earlier this year I was able to check off visitng the beautiful country of Peru.

My adventure began when I met my 23 traveling companions for the first time at the Miami airport. Introductions were made, anticipated chatter of our adventure took hold and soon life-long friendships were established. We flew from Miami to Lima, and then Lima to Iquitos where our paddleboat awaited us. We made our 25-mile journey down the Amazon River to our awaiting resort along the banks of the Amazon.
Our jungle adventure started with a canopy walk high above the treetops, continued with a Shaman healing from a local medicine man. Next we explored Monkey Island Animal Sanctuary where toucans and macaws perched peacefully in the sun and spider monkeys frolicked. Our days were filled with visits to local village markets, successfully finding elusive pink dolphins in the Amazon River, and fishing for piranhas. I caught two piranhas, which were large enough to eat for dinner that night.

We took multiple flights to our next destination, the city of Cusco, an ancient Inca Imperial city. In Cusco, we walked along cobblestone streets and shopped for beautiful handmade alpaca clothing. We then traveled by train through the magnificent Andes Mountains to the majestic and hidden Inca city of Machu Picchu. The beautiful vistas that Machu Picchu provided were breathtaking and awe-inspiring. A true marvel.

What am I going to check off next from my bucket list? I don’t know but can’t wait to figure it out.
Word of Mouth
A big thank you our Pembroke patients who participated in Smileboston’s survey. You talked, we listened. Changes, based on your comments, are coming.
Practice good toothbrush hygiene. It’s best to replace your bristles every 3-4 months, when they show signs of wear, or after an illness.
Oral health plays an integral role in your overall well-being. This Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks for a healthy smile!
